1. Respect the Dojo
Bow upon entering and leaving the dojo. Before entering or leaving, you must be recognized by the instructor.
Always keep the dojo clean and orderly. Manage your own belongings and ensure that the space is safe for all participants.
Treat equipment and the training space with care. Aid in the setup, cleaning, and tear-down of the training area. Report any damage or risks you identify.
2. Show Respect to Teachers, Students, and Yourself
Always bow to instructors and fellow students.
Address instructors with appropriate titles (e.g., Sensei, Sempai).
Listen attentively and avoid interrupting during instruction.
3. Maintain Proper Etiquette
Arrive on time. If late, wait at the edge of the mat and bow before entering.
Wear a clean karate-gi (uniform) with appropriate belt.
If you do not have a uniform attend your class dressed appropriately for the activity.
Remove shoes before stepping onto the training surface.
4. Practice with Discipline
No horseplay, foul language, or disruptive behavior.
Do not engage in behaviour that inconveniences others.
Always train with focus, intensity, and seriousness.
Control your techniques—safety is a shared responsibility.
5. Personal Conduct
Your safety and the safety of your training partner is of primary importance.
Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed for safety.
No jewelry or accessories during training are permitted unless approval has been granted by the instructor.
Personal hygiene must be maintained. Do not attend class if you are sick, have open wounds, or have communicable diseases.
No food or drinks (other than water) is permitted in the training area
Change in the designated areas.
Always inform the instructor if you have an injury or limitation.
Your safety is your responsibility. Do not participate in an exercise if you do not feel that it is safe for you or your partner to do so.
In the event that special equipment is required to protect an injury or unique circumstances, it may be approved by the instructor provided it does not pose a risk to yourself or others.
When training with a partner, adhere to all signals to terminate your interaction, either by request or by using a double tap.
6. Follow Instruction
Always obey the directions of your instructors in the class.
All instruction is to take place only under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
Never teach techniques without permission.
Ask questions respectfully and only when appropriate.
Sparring is only to be conducted in the presence of and with the permission of an instructor.
7. Outside the Dojo
Use karate only for defence and never to intimidate or harm others.
Represent your dojo honorably. Your behaviour reflects your dojo and your instructors.
8. Commitment to Growth
Train regularly and strive for improvement. Make karate a priority in your life.
Support and encourage fellow students.
Embody the spirit of karate—humility, perseverance, and respect.
Your behaviour should be a model for others.
